10 Sure-Fire Ways to Know God Is In Control

Aug 15, 2016 | 0 comments

There are times when watching the evening news is maddening.

It looks like the whole world is spinning out of control.

Why are there so many wars?

Why is there so much of man’s inhumanity to man on display?

Have we lost all sense of goodness and charity towards one another?

Where is God when it appears that the forces of evil are winning?

No doubt, God must be just as dismayed as you are over what’s going on in the world.

But the question is not so much, “Is God in Control?”

The question you should be asking is, “Where do I stand with God?” And, “Have I given Him control of my life?”

God Remains Our Rock and Our Refuge

As a Christian, you know God is in control.

He has given man free will, even if the choices man makes are terrible ones.

That is why He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world, that through Him we would have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).

It’s that simple.

An abundant life vs. a chaotic life.

Even when the evening news is maddening, God is in control.

You can be assured:

Ask yourself, do you abide in God or does the world abide in you?

If the world is in dire straits, it’s because the world doesn’t believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, the “true light of the world.

It stumbles in darkness because it cannot see and doesn’t want to see the light.

Sometimes you need to see that the world is going “tTo hell in a hand basket,” as the old saying goes, to gain a better appreciation of God’s love for you.

Proverbs 16:4 is worth thinking about:

“The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”

Today definitely is the “day of trouble.”

By showing the contrast between good and evil, God calls you to choose the light or the darkness, life or death.

10 Biblical Ways to Know God is in Control

When you question if God is in control, here are 10 sure-fire ways to know that He is. Each is based on biblical application.

  1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen. 1:1)

From the very beginning of God’s Word, we know He is in control. He created the heavens. He created the Earth. He created us. That hasn’t changed.

He holds the world in His hands, from the depths of the Earth to the peaks of the mountains (Psalm 95:4).

  1. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jer. 29:11)

If God is giving us a “hope and a future,” then He must be in control.

Have you trusted in God to put you on the right path? Do your hope and future rest in the Creator?

Our God is not the God of chaos. Trust Him with your life because He loves you and has your back. (The thriving state of Israel is a prime example of God keeping His word to His people.)

He will neither leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

  1. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Take your marching orders from God, not a world in strife. Does He want the best for you? Yes!

God tells us in John 14:27, “My peace I give unto you.” So, do not be afraid because God is in control.

  1. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)

In other words, is God everything in your life? Do you trust Him to be in control when you feel unsafe?

When you feel the world spinning out of control, do you take refuge in the evening news? Or in your Rock?

God is your fortress to shield you from the world’s evil.

  1. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10).

There are times when we are all afraid.

We are afraid we can’t pay our bills. We are afraid sometimes to step out of the house.

We are afraid we are going to be swallowed up by the chaos that surrounds us.

But what does God say about fear?

He says, “Fear not for I am with you!”

Is there anything that God says that He cannot do?

  1. In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:10).

If that is the case, you’d have to say God is in control.

He created the universe, He created the Earth, and He created you!

It is your choice who you will follow, Jesus or the prince of the air, the devil.

  1. I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

That says it plainly enough.

You will have tribulation in the world. You will have chaos.

But God is in control, the one who will steady your heart and give you that peace that transcends all understanding.

God allows tribulation to happen, but He is in control of the world. Which side do you want to be on?

  1. The steps of a man are established by the Lord when He delights in his way. (Psalm 37:23)

That’s a big key, isn’t it? When you delight in the Lord, He establishes your ways.

And if He establishes your steps, you will know that God is in control.

  • The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1)

I love this verse. To me, personally, this says my God is in control!

Everything in this world belongs to God because God created everything.

10.  Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. (Psalm 91: 9-10)

I hold dear and fast to that promise of God because I know when God says He is going to do something, He will.

God is Surely in Control!

We can hold fast to God’s promises because He is in control!

As 1 Chronicles 29: 11-12 reminds us:

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours.

Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all.

In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

If God “rules over all,” then He must be in control.

Do you find strength in the Lord?

Have you allowed Him to be the Lord of your life?

It is His power to make great and give strength to all to those who trust in Him.

Things may happen for a reason.

Remember that our ways are not His ways (Isaiah 55:8).

Remember too…God is in control!
