Control Your Feelings When They’re Out of Control by Following This Advice

May 5, 2014 | 0 comments

Do you want to stop letting your emotions get the best of you?

Do you want to learn how to live victoriously?

I know that’s something many of us want to do but it isn’t always easy.

Getting our thoughts and feelings under control during stressful times in life is not an unreachable goal however.

In fact, it can be reached by anyone who chooses Christ as their Savior.

The Problem With Shifting Your Focus

One of the most important things that goes out the window when we are going through a trial is our focus.

We tend to move our focus from our God and we end up putting it instead on our circumstances.

The problem is that most of us are emotional creatures and our feelings go sky-high when we focus on our problems.

I admit that I’m someone who struggles with my emotions at times when things don’t go the way I expect them to.

I know that trusting God during the trials of life isn’t something that comes easy to many Christians, including myself.

I try not to let every bad situation or disappointment sway me and take my focus off of Christ.

However, I still experience those times when I’m so disappointed that I can’t stop myself from being distracted.

In fact, I had one of those experiences just the other day.

Once I stopped feeling sorry for myself and came to my senses, I prayed really hard.

I asked God to forgive me for letting my emotions control me and for speaking foolish things during my time of disappointment.

I knew I was forgiven once I repented.

How to Control Those Extreme Emotions

We are allowed to be disappointed or angry over our circumstances, however, we must never sin because of them.

We need to pray when circumstances are too heavy for us to handle.

We need to pray and ask God to help us with our thoughts.

We need to pray and ask God to help us take the focus off of our problems and put them back on Him.

This is the key to getting your emotions under control because it puts your problems back into perspective.

Your problem is so small compared to how BIG God is.

God understands and sees our pain.  However, He wants us to trust in Him.

This is the most important time to come to God in prayer because He has the ability to work miracles and change our circumstances.

Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.…”
