HOW TO KNOW GOD
God Is Creator
The Bible reveals it was Jesus Himself who created everything (John 1:3). Therefore, He also owns and rules everything (Psalm 103:19). That means He has authority over our lives.
God Is Holy
God is absolutely and perfectly holy (Lev. 20:26); He is good, righteous, and just. Therefore, He cannot commit or approve of evil (James 1:13).
We Are Sinners
Every human is born in sin and actively chooses to sin. (Rom. 3:23). Sin is doing the things that God calls wrong: lust, lying, pride, greed, gossip, etc. Everyone is a sinner and needs forgiveness.
The ABC’s of receiving
Forgiveness From God
“A” Stands for Admit
You must admit that you are a sinner. Everyone is a sinner and needs forgiveness. You must be sorry for your sin and turn away from a sinful life.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
“B” Stands For Believe
Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that God sent Jesus to pay the penalty for your sin. He lived a perfect life to satisfy all of God’s righteous requirements, and then took your place on the cross. “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“C” Stands for Confess
You must confess your trust in Jesus’ sacrifice, and ask Him to be Lord of your life.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved… for, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:9-10, & 13
Your Turn
Prayer
If you want to accept God’s forgiveness offered to you in Christ, here is a sample prayer. Saying this prayer or any other prayer will not necessarily save you. You have to mix it with faith and mean it from your heart. Only trusting in Christ’s finished work for you can save you from the penalty of sin (which is eternal separation from God). This prayer is a way to express to God that you are trusting in Him alone to save you.
“God, I know that I have sinned against You and deserve Your punishment. But thank You that Jesus took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I can be forgiven. I place my trust in You right now for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness, and giving me the gift of eternal life! I pray these things in Jesus Name, Amen!”
