“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” – John 8:12
The world we’re living in is falling apart.
It’s raging on and on as if completely out of control.
There’s constant fear of natural disasters, wars, terrorist attacks, and the decline of our economy.
There’s the rise of violence, brokenness in families, human sex trafficking, homelessness, and poverty.
But, is there any hope?
Is there someone greater than the evil in this world?
Greater than the struggles you’re going through?
Greater than the bills that need to get paid?
And greater than the addictions that bind so many?
Is there hope of something better?
Is There Any Light Shining in the Midst of All This Darkness?
“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2
God is Light: He dispels the darkness in the world.
Before God created the heavens and the earth…
Before He created animals, trees, and mankind…
Before He created anything, the Bible says there was darkness.
A darkness that covered everything.
Darkness is anything that’s anti-God.
It symbolizes the wicked, chaos, disorder, death, and evil.
It’s any false doctrine, a false idol, false religion, and any type of sin.
But God didn’t leave the universe this way.
He filled the earth with His marvelous Light by breathing life and creation into it. (See Genesis 1)
Are You a Child of the Darkness or a Child of the Light?
The enemy wants you to stay trapped in darkness, but Jesus Christ wants to set you free from it.
The power to overcome darkness is available for all those who put their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ.
But the sad thing is, many refuse to turn from the darkness their trapped in.
They choose to live a life of disobedience to God’s Word by living a life caught up in the darkness of sin.
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.” – John 3:19-20
Sin is anything you do, think or say that displeases God.
It’s anything that breaks God’s commandments and goes against what He’s said in His Word.
Sin may feel good for a season, but don’t let the temporary highs fool you.
A temporary high is not worth the everlasting low it brings!
That’s because sin destroys your walk with God.
It hinders your prayer life and destroys your personal relationships with others.
It’ll keep you trapped in the enemies cage through the bondage of addiction.
And it will keep you out of heaven if you haven’t put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ!
It Wasn’t Nails That Held Jesus to the Cross – It Was Love
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” – Ephesians 1:7
Jesus Christ is Light: He broke through the darkness of sin by His work on Calvary’s cross.
God doesn’t hate the sinner, but He does hate the sinner’s sin.
God gave humanity a cure from the disease of sin we’re all infected with.
He sent His Son Jesus Christ into this world as a light to expose any darkness and destroy it once and for all.
Unless you ask God to forgive you of your sin, by believing in His Son Jesus, you will not be saved, and your sins will not be forgiven.
But if you admit you’re a sinner, ask God for forgiveness, and turn away from your sins something amazing will happen.
You will have every single sin you’ve ever committed in the past, present, and future completely washed away!
You will have your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, securing your spot in heaven for all eternity.
And you will transfer from the darkness into the marvelous light all because of God’s grace!
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” – Ephesians 2:8
Jesus Christ died on a cross so you can have hope.
Hope for something better than life here on earth.
And hope and assurance of salvation.
Are You Letting Your Light Shine For All to See?
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
Christians Are Light: They are witnesses of Christ that are to shine brightly as His examples to the world around them.
When God calls you out of the darkness, you are to shine as a reflection of Him.
You are to be His hands and feet in this fallen world.
And His mouthpiece that tells others where to find the hope you found in Him.
You were created for so much more than your wildest dreams could ever imagine!
God has a unique plan for your life!
And a part of that plan is to share His love, grace, mercy, kindness, patience, gentleness, goodness, longsuffering, joy all through you! (See Galatians 5:22-23)
Defeat the Darkness By Turning On the Light!
So don’t shun the darkness.
Turn on the Light of Jesus Christ by relying on the Holy Spirit inside of you!
You can have a victory from bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, and jealousy.
You can be slow to speak, quick to understand, not always losing your temper.
And you can be a reflection of Jesus in this fallen world!
But you can’t do it alone.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” – Acts 1:8
Always remember that God’s light is stronger than the enemy and all the darkness in this world!
- It’s only by the power of the Holy Spirit that you can resist the temptations of sin.
- It is only by the blood shed by Jesus Christ that you can be forgiven.
- And it’s only by God’s grace that you can be saved and live a life
surrendered to Him.
Jesus Christ is Your Lighthouse in the Darkness
He is the peace in your troubled sea.
Trust in His promises.
He’s shining brightly in the darkness all around you.
Don’t fear what tomorrow brings.
Your Father’s love will bring you through.
In the silence, He won’t let go.
And in the questions, His truth will hold.
He will carry you safe to shore.
And lead you safely through all of life’s storms.
