Do You Recognize the Warning Signs of Going in Circles?

Jun 24, 2013 | 3 comments

If you were given a plane ticket to go anywhere in the world to find truth, would you take it?

If you were sent on a mission to seek wisdom, learn from the ancients, and hear great philosophers speak… do you think you’d find what you’re looking for?

Honestly, where do we go for answers to our problems? What sources do we read? What self help books do we buy? Which books and CDs of inspiring speakers do we take note of and purchase?

We read advice columns, blogs, and check out other people’s Facebook’s, wondering how they’ve managed to live a better life than we have. Why do we jump at the newest “cure” that will solve our problems, the newest “info”, or insight that attempts to explain this human condition?

Are We There Yet?

We are not satisfied with the way things are at home, with our spouse, with our children, or in the workplace.

The way we do things now is not enough and so we are seeking instructions to live life “a better way”.

We look for ways to change and every time we take someone’s advice, we change paths and start to run in a new direction.

My question is, when will you come full circle?

That means that you come to the conclusion that all the running and lane changing led you back in a circle. Realize what Solomon realized: “Everything is meaningless!”

Memorabilia

I remember as a teen in high school, I loved to read the required books.

While everyone complained about the endless reading, I read those suckers to death because I thought they were the fount of all knowledge and life experience.

In my senior year, I took a class that taught classic poetry.

Byron, Jane Austen, Shakespeare, etc. were taught and critiqued.

We read the greats that wrote about life, love, betrayal, and death; every human theme under the sun.

But somewhere during the middle of the year, I remember thinking “Is this it? Is this really all there is to living?”

I concluded that the world and everything in it, all we boast about, is meaningless.

Where I thought I’d find invaluable wisdom and the inside scoop to life, there was emptiness. Oh the books were full of advice and deep conclusions, but the value and the meaning of it all was worthless.

Just Jump off the Plane

Please remember on your plane ride, that the earth is round. There are only so many times you can go in a circle before you start seeing the same things over and over again.

Time goes on, kingdoms rise and fall, and there is nothing new under the sun nor will there ever be. Everything that existed before will exist again, as it’s written in Ecclesiastics.

There is nothing worse than completing a journey and feeling unsatisfied; getting what you worked for all your life and it doesn’t fulfill. There’s something painful about expecting someone to satisfy your hunger and instead, they end up robbing you of what they promised to fulfill.

But there is only One that satisfies.

Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.

-Isaiah 55:2

Feet on the Solid Ground

You have come full circle when you realize that spiritually, you are at a dead-end. But this is good! Rejoice, the Holy Spirit is speaking to you!

Some people refuse to acknowledge that they’ve found the dead-end and keep on searching. Others find it and give themselves over to despair and bitterness.

But, coming to the realization that everything about this earth is “passing away” and the need for something more is a blessing, because the Holy Spirit is calling you to more.

Jesus says: “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

“For I have come to give them life and have life to the fullest.” John 10

So are you going to continue going around in circles or will you surrender to the One who has all the answers?

From a brother in the Lord. There is a Motown song You Got Me Going In Circles. But also in the medical field we sometimes go in circles with sickness and with some doctors. That if some doctors treated all patients like the T.V. show Homes On Homes, with Mike Homes. I believe there would be less patients in our hospitals. As pastor Steve shared on thursday night from Zecharaih chapter 8 Where Is My Heart ? Part 2. Also on sunday morning message What Is Sin ? And also in the first phase building project at CCSB. Mornning devotions are very very important. Following our Lord daily should not be going in circiles, as our Lord blesses his followers by our devotional life, the reading of God’s Word, and our prayer time. And our fellowship with one another also in God’s house, our quite time, and being lead by the Holy Spirit. Lastly having the interman being renewed daily. And to ask the Lord in Psalm 139:23-24 Search me that I may follow the Lord whole heartedly. And as our God continues to bless all the staff at CCSB.
